If you are active and want to get back in the "game" you've come to the right place!
Sisters, June Watt and Carol Wain, are the founders of AccessAbility Sports and Leisure (www.freedomsport.net) They are based in British Columbia, Canada where sand, snow and bumpy terrain seem to be as common as paved streets and sidewalks!
They decided to create FreedomSport.net for a few reasons:
As an active Mom of Morgan, a child with special needs, June was frustrated by the limitations of the chair that Morgan uses. Everything came to a head, so to speak, when June's family and Carol's family (along with their parents) went to Hawaii for New Years in 2006. Getting Morgan's chair on and off the beach, where they spent the majority of the days, was a huge pain. Furthermore, Morgan had to be carried to the water's edge so that she could be cooled down with a "swim". Shortly thereafter June started searching for a chair that would fit their lifestyle, which includes frequent visits to the beach, rivers and parks. She found the Hippocampe Chair, which would become indispensable to her family.

Because of the research required to find the Hippocampe chair and the hassles of getting it shipped to Canada (from France), June approached the company to be a rep. Two years later, with lots of interest everywhere they went with the chair and not enough time to market and sell it, June enlisted Carol to get things rolling (so to speak!).
The sisters also decided that they would search for more products, like the Hippocampe chair, that would give more freedom to those who use wheelchairs. They have reached out to other manufacturers of "Active Mobility" products and plan to add more products shortly.
There is also an altruistic reason for this website, which is why they created the "Pay it Forward" program.

About 10 years ago, June's family went through one of those nightmarish times in their lives. June's son, Colton, 3, was diagnosed with Ewings Sarcoma 3 months after doctors gave June the news that Morgan, 9 months, has some type of neurological disorder. The family sprung into action, with grand-parents moving in with June, friends helping in every way imaginable and with Carol creating awareness of their plight through her media contacts. As a result of the PR campaign, which was picked up by the local papers and then the BC media, they were able to raise a significant amount of money, from incredibly generous strangers, for the children's care. Then in 2007, June's friend Avril was instrumental in fund-raising to help to buy the Hippocampe chair.
The "Pay it Forward" program has been created by Avril and Carol to help you to create a fund-raising campaign to help purchase any of the active mobility products AccessAbility Sports and Leisure sells. And the Forum has been made available so that you can help each other with questions and advice.
